First Birthday Session Details

When is the best time to schedule a Cake Smash session?

  • It is best to schedule your child’s cake smash session when they are 11-12 months of age.

What do I need to provide for my Cake Smash session?

  • You will need to bring the cake, a cake smash outfit, helium balloons (if desired), wipes for baby clean up, a washcloth, towel, and a light snack and drink for your child. Cheerios can also be very helpful!

How many set ups are included with the session?

  • Cake smash sessions include two set ups. One setup focusing on your child's first birthday portraits and cake smash and one bubble bath set up.

Do you provide outfits and props?

  • Our studio has an ever growing prop, birthday banner, and outfit collection that clients are welcome to use for their sessions. Please be sure to bring an outfit for the cake smash portion of your session.

What type of cake should I bring?

  • The cake should be 6 to 8” with a soft butter cream icing and a light color cake inside (no chocolate). Please make sure the cake is room temperature before the session to ensure the frosting is nice and soft.

Any tips on how to prepare my child for their Cake Smash Session?

  • It is always a good idea to do a "trial smash" with your child a few days before the session with a small cupcake to let them get used to the sensory overload a cake smash experience provides.

What if my child is sick?

  • Please let me know within 24 hours of your session if your child is feeling under the weather so we can reschedule your session. If your child is unwell it will show in the final images...especially in their eyes. I also work very closely with newborns, so I need to be extra diligent in protecting my tiniest clients. If you arrive for your session with a child displaying any symptoms of sickness I will cancel the session.
