Newborn Session Details

Marseilles Photography sessions are clean and classic in style. I believe less is more, and by limiting the use of distracting props, I make my clients the main focus of the art I create. ~

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a studio?

  • Yes, I have a commercial baby photography studio located in Atascadero, CA perfectly prepared for newborns and babies.

What about safety?

  • The safety of newborns always comes first at Marseilles Photography. I invest heavily in newborn safety and education and the comfort level and the safety of your precious little one is always my first priority! When you book a newborn session with Marseilles Photography, your baby is the only booking for that day. This ensures a clean and sanitized studio for your baby.

Do you have props?

  • ABSOLUTELY. I have an extensive selection of newborn props. This includes high end bonnets, headbands, hats, wraps, and outfits to name a few. I also have a large selection of beautiful maternity gowns. Based on your pre-session questionnaire, I will style your session around your favorite colors and styles.

When should I schedule?

  • The ideal time to schedule your newborn session is BEFORE your little one arrives. When you book a session I will add your expected due date to my calendar. Within 48 hours of baby's arrival e-mail or give me a call and I will finalize your session date. I only accept limited sessions per month, so it's imperative to get on the schedule in advance to avoid disappointment. All newborn sessions take place weekdays in the studio at 10 a.m.

What if baby arrives early or after my due date?

  • When you book your session, your baby is given priority on my schedule and is guaranteed a spot on my calendar. I offer a limited number of newborn sessions per month to accommodate each clients due date.

Do I need to bring anything to a newborn session?

  • Just the diaper bag essentials. I have everything needed for your newborn session, including props and outfits that are custom sized for newborn photography.

Why do you recommend newborns to be photographed before two weeks of age?

  • Babies older than two weeks of age are harder to settle and do not fall into that deep, deep sleep. Colic may become evident as well as baby acne after the 2 week mark.

Can we get family and sibling pictures too?

  • Newborn sessions are mainly focused on your new baby. I am happy to include a few parent/sibling shots, but the majority of your session will be centered around your little one. Because your newborn baby's safety is my ultimate priority, sibling shots with children under the age of 3 years cannot be guaranteed.

There seem to be a lot of photographers that say they photograph in newborns.

  • While I know that price is always at the forefront of any consumers mind, please remember the old saying, "You get what you pay for." Going with the least expensive photographer is not a good way to determine who will take your baby's portraits. Most often the least expensive photographer is also the least experienced. The photographer you choose will be handling, posing, and soothing your brand new baby! You should ensure that they have had adequate training in newborn portraiture and safety. It's not just about taking the pictures, it's making sure that you are working with someone who a) knows how to appropriately handle and pose newborns, b) considers the safety of your baby first and c) will provide you with a beautiful final product.

All newborn sessions are photographed at my commercial photography studio located in Atascadero, California.
